Call to Mind is offering custom Poynter Institute media training developed by journalism ethics leader Kelly McBride. Call to Mind is providing this free training ahead of Mental Health Month in May. McBride will cover ethical and journalistic best practices for talking with and about people with mental illnesses and their conditions. This training will also explore how details included and avoided in coverage can lead to better understanding of people, mental health conditions, and suicide. This course is intended to bridge the in understanding of mental illnesses, both chronic and temporary, as are often observed in survivors and witnesses of breaking news events. Call to Mind will also present a media style guide to covering mental health.
